Directions

The Studio by the Sea Photography is located at 292 Main Street, the east end, in Hyannis, opposite the TD Bank’s flagpoles, next door to Fazio’s (where you should totally go for dinner!). We are in the first block of the one way section, the third building on the right after the lights.

From Route 6 take EXIT 7 taking a left onto Willow Street. Follow to lights at Rte. 28, go straight across staying on Willow Street. At the end, take a right at stop sign onto Main Street. (Main Street is two-way at this point). Follow Main to the lights, where Main Street becomes one-way, after the lights we are the third building on the right. Parking is available on Main Street.

History

When we bought the studio, one of the things I loved was the history of the building. 292 Main has been a photography studio continuously since 1957! I’m the 5th photographer and the 1st woman, so I kind of like that too!! The original building has been the Post Office among other things, and was part of the great fire of 1904. On December 5, 1904 the whole block burned to the ground causing $150,000 in damages (the equivalent of about $3.5 million today!). When we had to do a little work on the building a few years back (okay, we were trying to get rid of the skunks that were living in the alley next to my building) we found that when they rebuilt, they just built right on top of the ashes! So there is a little bit of the history of Hyannis which right now is covered back in, but one day will be on display as a remembrance of the spirit of those who came before me… I’ve started getting together some images, and will post them eventually. I’ve always got photos to share here at the studio… I’d love to share them, feel free to ask!
